Although there are numerous directories and Internet web sites which list and/or provide information concerning all types of commercial services, our offering is designed to allow service providers specializing in international trade and transportation to portray themselves in a manner which allows prospective users to better differentiate particular capabilities and strengths.
Yes, each listing provides a phone number and contact, and a URL link if they have one. The primary value of our listings will often have been accomplished when you have a "short list" of who to contact based on our index and sort/select features.
Our goal is to help create greater marketplace transparency for specialized services needed in international trade and transportation. Finding a quality service provider outside of one's local area or field of experience can be challenging. This is especially true with respect to small service providers who may be the most responsive to particular needs. Networking helps, but referrals from satisfied customers may not always be available, or may not provide competitive comparisons.
To help identify the exact service-providers you are interested in, we index and cross-reference our listings so that you can sort/select the exact services, products, capabilities, and/or areas of operation you need. The key to making these features valuable, of course, is for all of us to encourage (get the word out to) worthy service providers to list with GISTnet.
At the request and expense of a service provider, GISTnet will also provide independent verification of their cargo liability and/or other insurance.
This service is performed on behalf of the service provider, although it benefits customers and insurance brokers alike by reducing the need for and expense of processing numerous separate insurance certificates. Prior to publishing information, we require a full certified copy of the policy directly from the insurance underwriter. We then scrutinize the policy and publish not only the policy dollar limits expiry date, but also the name of the insurer, policy number and issue date, and all specific coverages, with respective break-out limits, exclusions, deductibles and co-insurance provisions.
Based on this published information, prospective customers can determine to what extent the policy will cover their particular cargo or transaction. This level of detail is not provided on typical insurance certificates issued by insurance brokers. Equally important, GISTnet will provide our subscribers with an email each time there is a change in the insurance information for service providers they place on their "watch list" with us. The only exception to this is the verified insurance or other verified information which GISTnet, and only GISTnet, may add to a service provider listing at their request. This verified information will clearly be identified as such, whereas all other information will be subject to the disclaimer at the top of each listing.
In using or relying upon Service Provider information, please keep in mind that this information is entered and maintained by the service provider, not GISTnet. We are only providing access to the information free of charge to both the service provider and prospective users.
First, you must be registered as a GISTnet guest or subscriber to gain access to Guest Services. Then go to the bottom of the Service Providers listing, and select "Enter/Update Listing." This will provide you with a link to the forms and instructions needed to create or update your listing.
GISTnet will drop a Service Provider listing under two circumstances. First, listings which have not been updated in six months will periodically be dropped—this is to help assure that all service provider information is current. Second, we will drop a service provider if we receive credible complaints over their service quality or business practices which we consider serious and/or inconsistent with our purpose in listing service providers.
