An acronym for "The Export Certificate Project," consisting of an on-line database of foreign country requirements concerning the importation of plants and products made thereof. It is organized by approved country name (over 200 presently included), and has three sub-level keys: (1) product requirements (accessed via the scientific species name, with a common name cross reference), (2) general information (listing of prohibited, restricted and unrestricted species/products), and, (3) subsidiary information (i.e., whether or not an import license or import permit is required, endangered/protected species, etc.). This data base is funded by USDA, and operated by the Center for Environmental and Regulatory Information Systems (CERIS), and the Entomology Department, Purdue University. It is the most current and comprehensive data of its type, and is used as the authoritative reference for the particular diseases and infestations which each country requires inspected as to each product and the form and extent of phytosanitary inspection certificate required by each destination country. All USDA, state, and county agricultural officials have on-line access to this database, and most use it routinely. Access is also available to industry and to the general public via subscription through dial-up or the Internet. For more information, visit http://www.ceris.purdue.edu/.
