An umbrella standards organization, affiliated with the United Nations, which develops, adopts and publishes common standards for use worldwide. Input to this organization comes from standards organizations in numerous countries, including the ANSI representing the U.S. ISO currently provides thousands of standards, covering all sorts of products, technologies, processes and procedures. Freight forwarders may come in contact with a number of ISO standards, including standards for intermodal containers; the EDIFACT EDI message sets; the ISO9000 quality assurance, management and certification standards; and ISO14000, the recycling standard.
